This all-day workshop about the Science of Reading will leave you with the right amount of English language knowledge to put many pieces of the evidence-based research into action in your classroom. Topics included:
How the Brain Learns to Read & Write,
Ramping Up the Teacher Read-Aloud for Developing Listening Comprehension and Building Background Knowledge,
Key Features of Systematic, Explicit Phonics Instruction,
Correct Pronunciation of the 44 Phonemes & the 250 Graphemes Kids Must Learn to be Master Decoders AND Spellers.
There will be planned interactive activities in phonemic awareness, sound-symbol mapping, syllable division, visual/auditory/blending and vowel drills, sentence dictation, decodable text reading, and reading comprehension through oral language.
Target audience includes: primary classroom teachers, reading specialists, instructional coaches, building leaders, and ELA curriculum coordinators
