CANCELLED – Achievement Teams: A Better Approach to PLCs

Presenter:  Steve Ventura

Location: Medinah Shrine Center

Date:  October 24, 2023

Time:  8:30am – 3:00pm

(Continental Breakfast and Buffet Lunch Provided)

(Administrators’ Academy: #3807  Leadership and Learning: Implementing a Change Process)

Workshop Description:

“While many schools have established professional learning communities (PLCs), not all are realizing their potential due to unclear purpose, lack of trust among members, having no established protocols, or meetings that focus on trivial matters.” (Jay McTighe)

Midwest Principals’ Center welcomes school leaders along with their instructional teams to a day of learning how to strengthen their collective impact in order to maximize student growth. Using his Achievement Teams framework, presenter Steve Ventura will share a sustainable, systemic model that will grow educators’ collective efficacy, strengthen and affirm professional knowledge throughout the school site, allow leaders and educators to be accountable to one another, and increase student learning and achievement.  Participants will learn how to make teacher collaboration more efficient, rigorous, satisfying, and effective, using the Achievement Team four-step meeting protocol based on Hattie’s Visible Learning research.

During this one day workshop, participants will gain the foundational knowledge and skills of the Achievement Teams framework, thus enabling them to:

  • De-emphasize individual practice and promote collective ability;

  • Create professional teams of educators who continuously reflect on and improve their practice;

  • Have real conversations that impact students;

  • Strengthen collective efficacy within their PLCs or teacher teams;

  • Use the tools to support/sustain the work Achievement Teams in their building.

Achievement Teams are all about collective impact, with an emphasis on improving teaching and learning.

We hope to see you there!
