Students’ and teachers’ motivation to learn deeply impacts outcomes.  A key driver of motivation is a growth mindset, a seemingly simple concept with a lot of nuance.  Since mindsets are formed from people’s observations of the world, our school cultures deeply impact mindsets and self-drive.  This presentation will examine key growth mindset research and discuss systemic ways to foster and deepen growth mindsets.  We will reflect on implications for teaching & learning and school leadership, and will identify action steps to strengthen a learning-oriented school culture.

In this interactive workshop we will:

  • Examine the growth and fixed mindset frameworks and applications in schools and leadership.
  • Facilitate personal reflections to deepen understanding of mindsets and increase self-awareness.
  • Perform exercises to more precisely understand the growth mindset and how to cultivate it.
  • Reflect on our leadership skills and on opportunities to accelerate our development as leaders.
  • Explore school-based leadership strategies to foster a growth mindset culture in students, teachers, and communities.
