It is no surprise that we are experiencing an unprecedented technological revolution with rapidly evolving technologies transforming the educational landscape, especially Generative Artificial Intelligence.  As educators, it is important that we stay current with these changes and learn the most responsible and effective ways to utilize AI to enhance teaching and learning.  Depending on how they are used and what they are used for, AI can streamline daily teaching tasks, provide students with greater access, and ultimately have a positive impact on education.

This workshop will focus on ways K-12 educators can purposefully integrate AI into daily functions, including ways to use it for managing content, engaging learners, differentiating instruction, assessment, and providing feedback. Additionally, this session will balance the innovation that comes with AI alongside concerns and obstacles, including topics like data security, plagiarism, and district use policies. Recognizing the diverse range of expertise/exposure on this topic, the workshop is designed to support attendees at all stages of the learning curve in making qualitative changes to their role in the age of AI. Expect to be inspired and empowered to take the next step with AI in education!

As a result of this workshop, participants will:

  • Review the most updated research around AI in education, including various state and national guidelines from the NEA, U.S. Department of Ed, and the Illinois State Board of Education.

  • Explore the way AI integration can be done in conjunction with other school or district goals and initiatives.

  • Learn strategies for integrating AI tools into daily teaching functions of most K-12 educators.

  • Examine the way existing pedagogy and best practices can and should be considered when interacting with AI for teaching and learning.

  • Consider the ethical concerns related to AI and learn some practical ways that other teachers, schools and districts have worked through them.

  • Collaborate, ask questions, and synthesize learning with others interested in the same topic and with the presenter, a passionate thought-partner in this topic.
