Teaching Mindset Mathematics Across the Grades

with Jo Boaler

April 29, 2025

from 8:30 – 3:00

at

Medinah Shrine Center, Addison, IL

(virtual option is also available)

Recent years have seen an explosion of scientific evidence showing that there is a different way to teach and learn mathematics. When people take a “mindset mathematics” approach in all grades, different pathways open up, leading to higher, and more equitable achievement.  A mindset mathematics approach involves teaching math(s) as a conceptual subject, highlighting the connections between ideas, giving students mindset messages as they learn.

During this workshop, Jo Boaler, along with Cathy Williams, will be highlighting new evidence of the learning practices that separate low and high achieving students, and the teaching ideas that can help all students achieve highly. The topics we will address include number sense, algebra and data literacy across the grades. We will see videos of the approaches in action, learn the research behind the approaches, and work together on mathematics in these ways.

The content of this workshop is applicable across all grade levels. The target audience includes, but is not limited to:

  • classroom teachers of mathematics
  • math/instructional coaches
  • directors of teaching and learning
  • building leadership teams
  • building/district administrators
